Historical sensitivity at Western...

Guy #1: Man, if I had been in World War II I would've probably been in the Dutch resistance or something, underground operations against the Nazis would've been sweet.
Guy #2: Fuck that, man, I would've spent all my time finding a sweet hiding spot.
Guy #3: Yeah, dude, me too, just like Anne Frank.

no worse than laughing at "catching Downe's Syndrome" on the street

I disagree....holocaust humour is much worse than disability humor....still, this comment is funny for the sheer stupidity of it...

oh come on. it was sort of funny. and it's true. things didn't work out well for anne or many others. but they didn't mean any harm with what they said. and they didn't say it in front of any survivors or those who would be sensitive to such things. so get off your high horse and stop judging. we've all laughed at a joke we shouldn't have. not the nicest topic to joke about... but come on. oversensitive?

nope. The statement about Franks was crass...and it's not being oversensitive to say so, it's about having compassion and humanity...which comes from some awareness (which these guys completely lack).

Hey it's possible to laugh at something and still know that it is a stupid/horrible joke....how often do we say "that's awful..." and then laugh?

Has anyone considered that Guy #3 might actually know nothing of Anne Frank's story except the historical setting? I haven't read it, myself. I thought the humour here was in his ignorance, not his insensitivity.

Man, can I call Godwin's on this? Or does H have to be mentioned directly?

I think its pretty clear that the hilarity of this statement is not in its context (the holocaust), but rather in the fact that this guy actually had absolutely no idea what the story of Anne Frank was, and just figured that since she 'hid', that she probably had a good hiding spot.

Only at Western would this need to be explained.

I think it's pretty sad that everyone is trying to explain the humour of it, because isn't that kind of an individual thing? Also, if you have to explain it, it's not really all that funny, is it?

Those asses DO realize that Anne Frank DIED, right? That poor girl. Meanwhile, smart people like me wish that there was a way to go back in time and save all those peoples' lives.
