More Overheard on the Road: University of Victoria
Guy #1: Wow, there are so many hot chicks here. I can't hit it up, because I have a girlfriend.
Guy #2: Well, what are you going to do then?
Guy #1: ... I know! I'm going to drink until my penis doesn't work anymore!

F UVic.
I'm not a fan of the overheard on the road thing...
keep it to western. We already know that other schools are stupid!
ps. UVic only requires a 65 coming out of highschool to be accepted... HELLO!!!!!! most of us had 20 percent HIGHER than that!
...I had a 35% average my first time in OAC...and now I'm graduating from UWO...hmmm....guess high school averages don't really mean much of anything.
I had a 92% average in 12 (no OAC for me) and I have a 85%+ avg at UWO.... hmmm... guess high school averages do mean something.
ha ha ha this comment is simply amazing... however I agree with keeping it Western... this isnt overheard at a canadian university's its overheard at western!
"ps. UVic only requires a 65 coming out of highschool to be accepted... HELLO!!!!!! most of us had 20 percent HIGHER than that!"
My point in saying that was that it is basically BC's WINDSOR hahahaha...
Dude, if you only got 35, you didn't pass, so how the fuck did you get in? I didn't realize they were letting the short buses come to UWO (without uggs on, and a lot of cash)
Whom ever left the last post is a dummy. The guy with the 35% average said he got this average during his "first time" in OAC. Actually, I had a very similar average during my first "run through" with OAC and graduated from both Western and McGill with excellent marks. So, for some of us, there is no correlation between piddly little highschool marks and later academic potential. There is this thing called "intellectual growth"...
As a British Columbian at Western, I should note that the base entry level marks for UVic are merely a starting point, whereas the actual entry marks are much more substantial. When I went through UBC, 67% was the base minimum average for application, but the actual entry average for the university was around 86% - even for arts, which was right around 80% or so.
Additionally, high school grades from BC have a bit more stature; most academic Grade 12 courses are provincially examined (i.e., standard exam marked by a team of teachers, not your own) and this exam is worth 40% of your mark. Grade inflation can still happen - but the test will balance things out (and the teacher will - hopefully! - learn to grade a little more realistically). One certainly can't say the same thing about Ontario high schools.
As for the slagging of UVic... warmer weather + rarely hit with snow + proximity to substantial wilderness, as well as surfing and skiing + in a province with a microbrewery culture rather than two-four culture = a lack of concern about whether people think it's the western canadian incarnation of Windsor or not.
And yes: UVic should set up it's own 'Overheard at ...' site. After all, it once had a 'peeping thong' site to mock campus styles there, so I'm sure a blog wouldn't tax the time or skills.
Whoever left the comment two posts above should know that they used the word "whom" incorrectly, thus making him or herself look like a pretentious idiot.
HAHA! Whoever left the above comment made himself or herself "look like a pretentious idiot" because it's not correct to say "him or herself". Just because both words contain a smaller, common word, it doesn't mean you can omit it from the first of the two words. For example, it's incorrect to say "shell and catfish". Instead you should say "shellfish and catfish".
Heheh, this is so funny. Yeah, to the person who pointed out my misuse of the word "whom": your pretention is astounding if you actually feel the need to correct someone's grammar on the comments page of a frigg'n blog. Yikes, mate; I was just trying to make a point. alright?
Pffff...
haha, oh my. very funny comment. feel bad for the guys girlfriend, however.
I thought the same thing:| But, at least he's not acting on it. Sadly a lotta guys would.
Double-you Tee Eff. When I got in to UVic, it was an minimum 81% average in grade 12 academic courses. I'm not sure what it is now. Don't cheapen the image of the school by saying you can get in with 65%. I'm not sure where you heard that. PS: All the students from Ontario I know here are glad they are not in Ontario!
Ontario people are stupider - that's why they had to have 13 grades to bring them up to speed.
All of you are stupid and pretentious because you are arguing about entry percentiles into UVic, UBC or where ever! This all started because a guy want ed to nail all of the hot ass UVic chicks but he could because of his morals! So unless you have funny things to say or overheard funny things, SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!
