I think you need to work on your reading comprehension skills. What s/he was saying is that this quote is akin to saying something so obvious that's it's completely ridiculous to even say it.
I don't think it's an overly obvious thing to point out. Unlike the weather, there isn't a reliable forecast on how this conflict will turn out. It could get a lot better or a lot worse very quickly, and while most people would agree that no, it won't end soon, saying so isn't ridiculous.
Maybe it's just the gravity of the situation that makes the quote unfunny for me.

maybe the humour is in the fact that the situation in the middle east isn't exactly a new thing, they are just changing. I mean, it's not like I laughed out loud, but it is kinda funny that through all his research he found that it might not end over night. regardless, school needs to start again if we want to keep laughing
