Harper has a pig-face (big, round and really goofy-looking).

Let's "fire" him because of that...

Great idea. shoot the new Prime Minister.

Because what Canada REALLY needs right now is ANOTHER leadership race....

Let's see: 2 federal elections & 2 major leadership races in a little over 2 years, plus another election in the not-to-distant future.....ENOUGH!!!

but do you really want Stephen Harper in power?? I would rather have another race.

Well, yes, I do. I voted for his party, in fact (albeit with some reservations).

He can't do anything major right now anyway, given that it's a minority situaition. I'm willing to give the guy a (limited) chance.

Regardless of WHO the PM is, what we really need right now is for the government to get to work, instead of spending more time on another election or leadership race.

Actually, 7:38, I think Stephen Harper looks like Sam the Eagle from the Muppet Show.

Nothing above his mouth ever changes in expression!

Anyone who isn't down with the H-man should be thrown off a tall cliff, or impaled by a steel rod, or both!

That was hilarious!

I, however, am on Stephen Harper's side. Not because of the whole Conservative association with the bloody States. But because of the same-sex issue. That is definitely more important than education cost cuts.

The sincerity and goodwill in the air here is so thick you could cut it with a broadsword.

The Conservatives are hypocrites. How can they have "equality for all Canadians" as part of their platform when they don't believe in same-sex marriage?

Small point: about 30-40% of the liberal caucus in the last parliament opposed same sex marriage, and Paul Martin had voted agianst it as recently as 1998.
There were also a handful of conservative MP's that supported it.

The conservative position on the issue is not that same-sex marriage should be banned, but merely that there should be a true free vote on the issue.

I'm not saying that this is the right position, (I'm in favour of same sex marriage) but it's a little more complex than people are making it out to be.

12:47 just a question but where do you get the info on what martin voted "as recently as 1998" which really isnt all that recent anyways.

ALso, it's not that hard of an issue. You either support rights for all or not. Harper = new Hitler and Gays = Jews ... so there you have it.

Yes 5:46, that is clearly right:

Denial of marriage rights = murder of 6 million people.

7:32 PM

okay 5:46, allow me to answer:

1) there was a resolution on this issue in parliament in 1998. The traditional definition of marriage was upheld. Martin voted in favor of it. It is a matter of public record that is cited all of the time in newspapers and books.
The same is true of the party vote splits I mentioned. Those were from the bill that passed last spring.

2) As has been said, comparing a position on an issue like this to the murder of six million people is not only absurd, it demeans everyone who died because of hitler or fought against him. Also, Nazi comparisions are the biggest cliche in debating and should generally be avoided.

3)I'm sorry but you ARE oversimplifying the issue.

Do you even know what the conservative position on gay marriage is?

The conservative party favours giving gays civil unions that would have all of the benefits of marriage, minus the name. As I've said, I support gay marriage and i think that this position is an unecessary excercise in hair-splitting. But at the same time, it's the same position held by the british labour party and the French socialist party, neither of which can be called "right wing". It's not really an extreme position, though it is questionable.

My whole point is: on this issue, as with many others, the positions of the parties are not very far apart, and do not fall into for/agianst or black/white. Things are more complex than some people make them out to be. That's all.
