Pssh, you don't need basic math to work at McDonald's. Oh, wait...

Guy: Our psych exam is from 7 to 10.
Arts Girl: It's four hours long?!
Guy: ...from 7 until 10.
Arts Girl: Oh good! So only 2 hours.

There is no real way to verify any of the comments submitted to this blog. But in general they are funny and that's all that matters.

If you ask me, the one thing the operators of this site should do is NOT include any reference to faculties in the name as it usually only sparks arguments and debate. Plus, the odds that this girl was REALLY in arts is probably relatively small. It's not like the person who overheard it stoped and asked. "Hey, what faculty are you in." So the fact that it is atributed to an "Arts" girl is probably just a bias from the submitter.

:P Oh, Science vs. Social Science. It will be a never-ending fight, but then again, people I know who finished with arts degrees work in Future Shop or somewhere else for minimum wage, because they can't find jobs...
that must suck.

Put yourself in an arts major's shoes. What would you do if your passion in life was completely ridiculed by the general population and seen as frivolous to the point where you couldn't make your living doing what you loved. Imagine if no one gave a damn about science but they just went to concerts every day. Of course, you can't imagine that. But count yourself lucky if your passion in life gets rewarded with a cushy job, mr. and mrs. science majors. We arts majors are all paying real money to be here too.

Serious statement made, now, back to the funnies!

I agree with the quote above. Hell, the funny thing is, all science majors think they have it made: you get your little biology or chemistry B.SC, then work in a lab all day testing urine samples. Hey, science folks, I hate to say it, but that's hardly "saving the world"/"making a difference"--the oft spouted tautology of most of the science majors I knew while at Western. You know, I'd rather get a degree in English, Philosophy or Anthropology, and study something interesting! As for pursuing a relevant post-degree job? There are lots of high-paying jobs out there for social science/humanities grads—you just have to know where to look. Oh, and those social science/arts majors who pursue post-degree jobs at places like The Future Shop, etc.? Well, there are science majors there, too. I don't know, to me it's all about putting your degree to work for you. If you have absolutely no ambition, then you'll be working at Future Shop for the rest of your life; if you do have ambition, then you'll hopefully land that amazing job.

Oh hell, and this silly stuff about science vs. social science. Man, you science students are so arrogant sometimes! Not all of you are smart! Face it! Loads and loads and loads of science students get their degrees in biology, chemistry, physics, statistics, etc. with whopping 60% averages! WOWY!

Before I put this bloody thing to rest, let me say this: I a graduate with a social science degree. Before I graduated, though, I decided to try my hand at the sciences. So, naturally, I enrolled in the faculty of science for one year. I took good old intro. biology, into. chemistry, intro. health science, etc. The funny thing is, I was able to ACE these classes because they're ALL BASED ON MEMORISING FACTS!!!! In retrospect, I found my anthro. classes far more challenging. Anyways, food for thought...

Guess what! I'm doing arts AND science, so maybe I should start fighting with myself...

PS...funny post, and these crazy faculty debates are stooooopid

...urine samples? Hold on, why are 80% of the people in science, IN SCIENCE. Medicine. Saving the world? No. Saving people's lives? Yes. I'm not saying that arts aren't important, not at all. Science is a study of the world around us, the arts are a study of expression. We need both for a good balance, of course. Maybe you find science really easy, but for example I find the arts incredibly easy. Thing I don't like about them though, is that most of it is based on personal opinion, so unlike sciences which are straight-forward, in the arts you sorta have to figure out what it is your prof is looking for. I wasn't bashing the arts, by the way (I know you'd love to think I had been, because you got so worked up over it), but I just meant that it IS hard to get a job afterwards, in certain fields, ambition or no ambition. Doing research in anthro or psychology isn't nearly as in demand as for example, medical research or chemical research. Don't take everything so negatively!!!

Isn't it funny that a website dedicated to making fun of others has debates where people get pissed that their faculty is getting made fun of?

Well, I find your dichotomy to be far too simplistic: the arts/social scienecs aren't all about studying "expression". I wouldn't consider such fields as law, the sociology of knowledge, the philosophy of science, or any of the medical social sciences as fields devoted to the study of "expression". Anyways, I'm really sorry; I'm not trying to be a contentious hound about things at all (well, maybe just a little--it's just so easy on here)! Really, though, I just don't like the arrogant position *some* science students take toward the social sciences or humanities. BUT, as the person above me pointed out, I really don't think this is the proper venue for such discussions.

Onwards humour!
