But you do have to dance around with a stupid name on your back!

Girl #1: I'm so nervous about [soph] carousel on Sunday.
Girl #2: Oh, you'll be fine. I'll put you through. So long as you suck up to me.
[pause]
Girl #2: Don't worry, you don't have to make out with me or anything.

I was a Soph at King's once... worst experience ever... since I was the only off-campus and non-student council weenie selected, I was an outcast from the get-go... no one made an effort to even talk to me or some of the less well-known people, despite my best efforts to try to fit in with the "Student Council Rules!!!!" gang. Talk about inane rules (can't say frosh) and political posturing as they jockey for some useless resume-padding student council title... they present a united front to the general public, but behind the scenes, it was very high schoolish... petty bickering, gossiping, and backstabbing as the various cliques battle for soph supremacy.

They are great for telling you what to do and how many days of work you are supposed to miss over the summer, but don't expect any thanks or even politeness in return for your efforts.

Despite what they claim, they is alot of hooking up with either sophs or "frosh."

And yes, some of them actually enjoy doing the "cool" cheers, even when they don't need to.

P.S. Don't say anything to them about the way you are treated or you will be blacklisted (further) from any other committees or sports organizations (like being the captain of a rec-league volleyball team, and having them forget to call you about the mandatory meeting at the start of the season, which disqualifies your team) afterwards... I know from experience, if you know what I mean.

4.51 is not bitter at all, I went to Kings, and that is not just true for sophs but pretty much any club you try to get involoved with there, its just like high school.

I was a brescia soph and it was NOTHING like that. Pretty much all of us got a long and talked to everyone. Nobody on the team was too cool to talk to anyone else.

To say I'm bitter is to miss the point. I just thought I'd add my two cents to the topic, sort of "Sophs... Behind the Scenes..." Its not all wine and roses in Soph land, that was my point...

I should say that I don't think ALL Sophs are bad or losers, but there are a lot of them that act and think like that. The reason I applied (the only 1 out of 90 picked that was OC and non-council) was that I had such a great time as a First-Year-Student (offical lexicon that the overlords substituted for "frosh") and wanted the fun to continue. I was very naive and out of my element I have to admit, but its not much fun trying to fit in with juvenile cliques... I tried real hard to like it and to fit in, but it didn't work out. Not really anyone's fault, but I did get turned off the whole charade while pretending to be a big-time player on the scene.

If you have ever witnessed self-important jerks trying to manipulate people while thinking that the high school really DOES revolve around them, then you can relate to my experience.

But don't dis the quality of education at King's or Huron... I'd rather have 90 people in the class than 700 or whatever like at main... you can't beat a small classroom setting for achieving academic excellence.

Agreed with zippo. I'm on main campus, but took an elective at King's, and it was a really good experience. My prof marked all our essays, ran all of our tutorials (so all the marking was equal-no discrepancies between TAs). I had the class two years ago and he's written me two reference letters since. A lot more than I can say for my science profs, who have to deal with classes reaching 1000.

I found Kings was high school because everyone knew everyone from the get go and no one else really mattered.

I wouldn't say all the affiliates are like this. Brescia has gossip, yes, we are ladies, BUT it's not at all exclusive the way Huron and Kings are. Brescia's the best and it's not JUST the place for feminists and lesbians.

Dude, if you have a vagina, you should be a feminist.
Hell, even if you don't, but let's start by getting rid of self-loathing women first, shall we?

By that logic, if you have a penis, should you be a misogynist?

or if you're rich, should you be a conservative?

A person's view point is not dependant on their physical characteristics.

Feminism isn't the same as mysogyny, at least it shouldn't be. Feminism is supposed to be about attaining equal rights for women, and essentially being proud to be a women. Not the same as mysogyny, which is just hating women. I don't see why all women shouldn't be proud to be women, or think that they deserve an equal place in society.

of course they should be proud to be who they are and demmand an equal place, but it just seems that a lot of modern radical femminism goes much further than that....

I guess it all depends on how you define it.
