Please don't let her vote.

From a Western student on exchange:

A girl explains how Canadians living in another country vote in the upcoming election.

Western Girl: Okay, but what about if we're back in Canada during the election? Do we still need to fill everything out so we can vote from here?

This is not even funny. I think it's a pretty fair question. Posting this sort of thing is ridiculous.

how is this a "fair" question? clearly you're not gonna have to fill out stuff to vote from abroad if you're going to be home for the election.

it's because the girl will be living back in Canada then...obviously you would not have to vote from abroad if you are back in Canada...

The girl was obviously asking if there was parallel paperwork to be worked out in Canada. That's a fair question. She obviously understood that you don't vote from abroad when you're not abroad. The question is legitimate.

No, she was not asking if there was if there was parallel paperwork to be worked out in Canada. She asked "Do we still need to fill everything out so we can vote from here?" She would not need to 'vote from here' if she was in Canada.

Question is not legitimate, and is definitely funny

Exactly! When would a Canadian ever need to fill out the paperwork for Canadians living internationally if they were living IN Canada during the election?

She might be a non-resident, concerened that she can't vote while only temporarily visiting Canada. That is, unless she has done her appropriate paperwork beforehand. Although admittedly a bit naive, anybody whose lived abroad will be familiar with the uncertainty that nonsensical bureaucracy breeds. I feel for her.
